Larkspur’s historic downtown is the perfect place to open, then quickly close anything from a flower shop to a clothing boutique, the town’s leaders say. “We’ll do a big ribbon cutting and everything," they explained. "Then, when you go under, we’ll throw a going-away party for you!”
Larkspur isn’t the place in Marin County where you can try out that little business idea of yours, but it claims to be the best. “First of all, name a cuter location for, say, a short-lived ice cream shop,” said Bill Haxley, head of the town's chamber of commerce. He went on to tout the many advantages proprietors enjoy in Larkspur’s postcard-ready downtown, pointing out that there’s no need to worry about attracting customers, staffing or anything else because you will fail no matter what. "That way, you can focus on having fun!" added Haxley.
