Being raised in a crime-free haven of privilege doesn’t mean teens don’t know how to handle themselves, says Trent Harding, a 17 year-old junior at Redwood High School. “I grew up in a place where no one locks their doors, and kids wear pajamas to school until they’re 18.” Harding said. “That background has made me hyperaware of the fact that I would be eaten alive the minute I set foot outside Marin County.” In a remarkable display of savvy for a kid his age, he plans to avoid big cities, bad neighborhoods and even lower-middle class areas for the rest of his life. The teen even had some wise words to share with any peers who might be considering a life outside the suffocating cocoon of affluence. "Stay in the bubble, stay out of trouble!"
