Motorists caught using the E. Blithedale exit lane to bypass northbound traffic on the 101 will spend the rest of their lives in a prison-within-a-prison recently built just for them at San Quentin. “You know who you are,” said San Quentin’s warden, calling the offenders “the worst of the worst,” and saying that they can look forward to being locked down for 23 hours a day in the Supermax facility — and the other 60 minutes being hunted in the prison yard. Many of the most notorious criminals at San Quentin were once commuters themselves, and say they never once considered using that exit lane to cut in line. “We’re not animals,” they said.
