San Anselmo deployed a battalion of soldiers to its border with Fairfax on Tuesday, with reports saying its infantry crossed the DMZ at Sir Francis Drake with the goal of capturing Good Earth by nightfall. The neighboring towns share deep ethnic ties but long ago separated into two distinct tribes with opposing cultural practices. San Anselmo’s tidy yards, spiffy children and upscale wine bars speak to its “white-picket-fence” prerogatives, while the people of Fairfax claim to be looking for work but spend most of the day playing bongo drums in the park. “They think nothing, for example, of showing up at a movie theater in bare feet,” said San Anselmo’s minister of defense, removing a bit of dander from his sweater. “They’re barbaric.” Thus far, Fairfax has declined to mount on opposing force, with the town's army saying that they’re not really worried about what a bunch of squares from San Anselmo are up to.
